青藏高原（Qinghai-Tibet Plateau）是中國最大、世界海拔最高的高原，約占中國領土面積的四分之一，其中大部分地區非常偏遠，不適宜人類居住。青藏高原南部邊界是世界上最高的山脈——喜馬拉雅山（the Himalayas）。它的中部地區是寒冷的荒地。青藏高原上有35 000多座冰川（glacier）。這些冰川是很多大河的源頭，如長江、雅魯藏布江和黃河等。由于對亞洲氣候和水系的深遠影響，青藏高原養活了差不多一半的世界人口。
Qinghai-Xizang Plateau is the largest plateau in China and the highest in the world, which covers about a quarter of China’s territory. Much of it is extremely remote and inhospitable. Its southern border runs the world’s highest mountain range—the Himalayas. Its central part is a freezing wilderness. Qinghai-Xizang Plateau contains over 35 000 glaciers that are sources of many great rivers, such as the Yangtze River, the Yarlung Zangbo River and the Yellow River. With its profound effect on Asia’s climate and water systems, Qinghai-Xizang Plateau helps to feed almost half the world’s population.
