中國的500米口徑球面射電望遠鏡（Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope）也被稱為“中國天眼”。它的觀測范圍已經能到達銀河系外星系（extragalactic galaxy），甚至百億光年之外的宇宙邊緣。借助“中國天眼”，科研人員可以探索星際通信信號，甚至搜尋可能存在的外星人。中國專家表示，由中國科學家設計和建造的這臺望遠鏡在未來10到20年將保持全球領先地位，是中國科技創新的一張代表性“名片”。
China’s Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope ( FAST) is also known as Chinese Tianyan, dubbed “China Sky Eye”. Its scope of observation is already beyond the extragalactic galaxy, even to the edge of the universe over ten billion light-years away. With the aid of FAST, scientific researchers are able to explore interstellar communication signals, even to search for possible aliens. Chinese experts said the telescope, designed and built by Chinese scientists, will remain the global leader for the next 10 to 20 years, and it is regarded as a representative “ business card” for scientific and technological innovation in China.
