The most significant economic event of the first half of the 21st century is how China is changing the global economy. This change brings a lot of benefits, including hundreds of millions of new consumers for global economic growth, new employment opportunities, and increasing demand for all kinds of products—from the American corn to the Australian iron ore. However, low-skilled workers in the West have already felt the pressure from China’s machinery production. As China’s economy grows, it will present stiffer challenges to the US, European countries and Japan, and also new threats to the world’s established economic order.
