作為明代一位杰出的地理學(xué)家、旅行家、文學(xué)家，徐霞客一生的成就是多方面的，但從旅游的角度看，其對壯游山水的全身心投入，是最為引人注目的。他一生周游考察了22個省，足跡幾乎遍及全國。徐霞客的游歷，并不是單純?yōu)榱藢て嬖L勝，更重要的是為了探索大自然的奧秘，尋找大自然的規(guī)律。為此，他常常選擇不同的時間和季節(jié)，多次重游各地名山，反復(fù)觀察變幻的奇景。徐霞客不僅對地理學(xué)有重大貢獻，而且在文學(xué)領(lǐng)域中也有很深的造詣。他的著作《徐霞客游記》.既是地理學(xué)上珍貴的文獻，又是筆法精湛的游記文學(xué)。
During his life time, Xu Xiake visited and explored 22 provinces, leaving his footprints in nearly every corner of the country. Xu Xiake made his visits not only to get a view of some places of interest. More importantly, he intended to explore the mysteries of nature and discover its laws. To achieve this goal, he would revisit famous mountains at different times and in different seasons to observe the changing magnificent views time and again. Not only did Xu Xiake make a significant contribution to geography, but he also cultivated himself profoundly in the realm of literature. His travel book Diary of the Travels of Xu Xiake is both a precious geographic literature work and an exquisitely written literature work of travel.
